Youth Enhancement Services is a non profit, non-governmental organization that serves at risk young women and girls.  YES opened its doors back in 1989 and now have three programme areas:

 

o (YES) Youth Enhancement Services Training Centre – is located in Lords Bank village, approximately 10 miles from the city.  This

 centre caters to young women who have fallen out of primary or high school and wants a chance to gain an employable skill, or perhaps re-enter the normal educational system.  Courses offered include: Math, English, Cooking/Hospitality, Arts/Craft, Sewing, Non-Traditional Skills, Life-skills, & Computers.  Both group and individual counseling is offered to our clients to assist in developing coping skills and making wise choices as they journey through their own personal battles.

o (YES) Centre for Teenage Mothers started in 1997 – located on the Cleopatra White Health Centre compound on Princess Margaret Drive; offers support and educational sessions to teen moms and first time mothers.  Services include: care hamper, home visits, bi-weekly rap sessions on topics such as HIV/AIDS & STI’s,  Parenting, Nutrition, Breastfeeding, Infant Care, Pre-natal & Post-natal care, etc (YES) Outreach & Advocacy started in 2000 (same location as above) – This department leads the only campaign in our country against sexual abuse and exploitation of young women and girls.  Outreach work is being done in urban and rural communities as well as at the district level, educating young women about their sexuality and their right to say “No”. Since 2001, more recently this department has also been advocating for policy changes in the current law to protect children against Commercial Sexual Exploitation and in essence raising public awareness on this very pertinent issue.
